SEND Networking Event brings families together

On Monday 9th February 2026, the Changemakers, organised a SEND Networking Event that was held at the Poplar HARCA’s Linc Centre. The Changemakers are a local group of SEND parent advocates supported by Bromley by Bow Health and Poplar HARCA.

The event was all about bringing SEND families together in a relaxed and welcoming space. It gave parents and carers the chance to meet others who understand their experiences, share information, find out about local support and enjoy some time together. Most importantly, families were able to feel supported and connected.

“It was a real reminder of how powerful it is to bring people together in a supportive community.” Rujie Nessa, Enhanced Health and Wellbeing Practitioner, BBBH.

A range of local services joined us with information stalls, including Phoenix School, Be Well Gym, Bromley by Bow Centre’s Integrated Advice team, Wellington Way’s Social Prescriber and Spotlight, the creative youth service. It was great to see these services in one place, talking directly with families and offering advice and support. Some organisations were unable to attend due to staff shortages, but their continued support is still appreciated.

Families took part in creative and hands-on activities such as card making, henna painting, canvas painting and pebble decorating. These activities helped create a calm and enjoyable atmosphere and gave families a chance to relax and spend quality time together. A raffle added to the fun, with prizes such as a self-care hamper and toys for children.

In total, 32 parents and 6 children attended. Many families made new connections, had open and meaningful conversations and learned more about the support available to them. Overall, the day was positive, friendly and full of smiles, showing how valuable it is to bring families and services together in a supportive community.
